Note: The stadium seated 4,900 people when it opened in 1966. In 1977, a bleacher section was added increasing the seating capacity to 7,027. In 2002, with $4.5 million in granting funding from State of Florida, $2 million in funding from the Polk County Tourist Development Council and remaining costs funded by the Tigers and the City of Lakeland, the facility was renovated to 8,500 seating capacity. It was named after local resident and former Lakeland Parks and Recreation Director Marcus "Joker" Marchant. It is the spring training home of the Detroit Tigers and the regular-season home of the minor league affiliates Lakeland Flying Tigers and Gulf Coast Tigers.
It was reported in the Lakeland Ledger that on March 15, 2011, the largest crowd in the stadium's history (10,307 people) watched a spring training game between the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox.[1] The stadium has undergone several renovations, the most recent in 2017.
